Zawyeh at Editions Dubai

6 November – 9 November, 2024

Editions Art & Design

Location: Dubai Design District (D3), Waterfront Terrace, Booth E30

Zawyeh Gallery is pleased to participate in Editions Art & Design, featuring the work of eight young, and renowned Palestinian artists, marking 76 years of Israeli occupation, bringing focus to Jerusalem and other parts of Palestine.

The overwhelming significance of Jerusalem’s physicality as a national symbol permeates many of the artworks. The iconic representation of the Dome of the Rock comes to the forefront as some artists celebrate the city with exceptionally colorful works, particularly those by Nabil Anani, Hosni Radwan, and Sliman Mansour. The exhibition also showcases contemporary artists’ perspectives on the socio-political issues surrounding the city’s ongoing occupation, with powerful photographic works by Majdulin Nasrallah, who manipulates images of physical structures symbolizing power and control to envision an alternative future. Jack Persekian layers photographs of Jerusalem taken at two distinct times, examining the forces that have impacted the city’s landscape over the years. Persekian also presents a photographic journey taken in 2020 exploring the Hejaz Railway line in Palestine or what remains of it.

Khaled Hourani attempts to transcend the wall through his work, Musician in the Clouds, capturing a young man climbing it with his hands and ropes, or relying on his imagination. The racial discrimination practiced towards Palestinians by the Israeli regime is the subject of Yazan Abu Salameh’s artwork, Seven Shadowless Rocks, while Bashar Alhroub’s work, Less Holiness, is a journey through time amid the complex and fragmented Palestinian landscape of the 21st century.
