Yazan Abu Salameh was born in Jerusalem in 1993. He studied fine arts at Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem in 2011 and participated in several workshops, including scenography at Al-Quds College in Beit Jala. He taught art at several community centers, including the center at Aida Refugee Camp in Bethlehem.
Abu Salameh’s artworks reflect a bold approach to the use and distribution of materials across the surface. He works with mixtures of concrete, pebbles, and wires combined with Lego blocks and drawing. His concrete works function as miniature maps, reflecting remnants of childhood memories, present concrete blockades, watchtowers, and Palestinian neighborhoods viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective.
His first solo exhibition, Cemented Sky, was at Zawyeh Gallery’s space at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, followed by an online exhibition titled Bending Towards the Sun in 2022. He lives in Ramallah. He participated in several group exhibitions in Palestine, Jordan, and the UAE. He won third prize in the “Let’s Make It Glow” competition, which enabled him to exhibit in Italy in a group exhibition organized by the Municipality of Turin in 2019. He participated in Ramallah Art Fair (2020, 2021, and 2022) and Art Dubai (2021 and 2023) with Zawyeh Gallery.
