Leila Eskandari (b. 1987, Tehran, Iran) earned her master’s degree in painting from Al-Zahra University in Tehran. Her artwork draws inspiration from the mythological love stories of Iran. She has showcased her pieces in various exhibitions, including “Episode 06” and “Episode 08,” as well as in a joint show at Mohsen Gallery. Her latest solo exhibition, titled Whispers of Legends, was held at Zawyeh Gallery in Dubai in 2024.
In her most recent series of paintings, Eskandari specifically looks to the Shahnameh, or the Book of Kings, an epic poem completed by the Persian writer Abolqasem Ferdowsi in the early 11th century. Consisting of more than 50,000 rhyming couplets, the Shahnameh serves as a compendium of Iranian myths, legends, and historical episodes that have fascinated Eskandari since childhood. Currently, Leila Eskandari resides and works in Tehran.
