Jasem Shuman is a sculptor, visual artist, and poet born in 1983 in Ramallah. He graduated from the Faculty of Arts at Al-Quds University in 2013 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Contemporary Visual Arts at Dar Al-Kalima University in Bethlehem.
Shuman’s work is deeply rooted in his personal experiences, exploring themes of politics in relation to identity, society, and relationships. His art explores his connection to the land and the psychological complexities of navigating it, alongside reflections on fatherhood and freedom. Employing diverse expressive mediums, including drawing, sculpture, and poetry, he brings these themes to life.
His works have been exhibited in Ramallah, Tunisia, Riyadh, and Beirut, as well as in France, Germany, Romania, Spain, Belgium, and at the Aurora Biennale in Sweden. Several of his sculptural works have been installed in public spaces in Palestine and internationally, including in Spain and Romania.
In addition to his artistic practice, Shuman has worked as an art lecturer at Palestine Technical University “Kadoorie” and has been a visiting lecturer at Marburg University in Germany since 2022. He specializes in providing psychological support through the arts, collaborating with local institutions in the West Bank and Gaza, as well as international projects in Lebanon and Sweden. Shuman has also contributed to the artistic direction of a number of short and feature films.
