Mohammed Joha was born in Gaza in 1978. He lives and works in Marseille. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Department of Art Education at Al-Aqsa University in Gaza in 2003, and later joined the summer academy at Darat Al Funun – The Khalid Shoman Foundation in Amman, under the supervision of the late Syrian artist Marwan Kassab-Bashi. In 2004, he won the Young Artist of the Year Award organised by the A.M. Qattan Foundation. Joha works across painting, collage, installation, and mixed media, exploring memory, displacement, destruction, and reconstruction through layered compositions made with fabric, paper, cardboard, and found materials.
Joha’s recent exhibitions include Houselessness at Zawyeh Gallery, Dubai, and Gaza: Between Rubble and Memory. In 2026, he was invited to participate in the 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, In Minor Keys, curated by Koyo Kouoh. He was also named a joint recipient of the inaugural Nicholas Fox Weber Prize, presented by the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, and will present a solo presentation with Zawyeh Gallery at Frieze Abu Dhabi 2026 as part of Global Futures, curated by Tarini Malik.
