Spaces brings together – on home soil – a fine group of Palestinian Artists united in their love and appreciation of the Palestinian Landscape. We are especially delighted that Palestinian Artists from pre- 1948 Palestine are participating.
Land to Palestinians is the very source of life. Yet, it remains the most precious and most threatened resource of their disposal. Palestinian land has been – and continues to be – the heart of our struggle, with the biggest land grab in modern history. What remains of historic Palestine continues to be expropriated at a relentless pace for illegal settlements bypass roads and colonial master plans. With its Biblical hills and sublime topography, Palestine’s precious terrain is fast becoming a vanishing landscape. Land, off course is a witness to past loses, sorrow and despair – vivid in many of the art on display.
Land also offers the Artist the space from which to create and reflect on one’s own narrative.
This exhibition is not only about loss or longing – which remains ever – present in every Palestinian Artist’s conscience – it’s a celebration of our land and ancestral home that continues to be our source of joy and inspiration. Tonight’s exhibition is testament to our steadfastness, creativity and humanity.
Zawyeh – on its part – is holding this exhibition in a unique space. The work on display is presented in an “open house”. Whether it’s on the staircase or the walls of living rooms, Open House offers an opportunity to enjoy the artworks as they are meant to be presented and enjoyed – in one’s own home.
