Rituals Under Occupation
Sliman Mansour

Sliman Mansour‘s artwork titled Rituals Under Occupation is a poignant and emotionally charged artwork that depicts the impact of occupation on the Palestinians. The work captures a somber scene of a funeral procession, where crowds of Palestinians walk with solemn determination, carrying the coffin of a martyr. The shape of the martyr’s coffin, resembling a cross is a visual metaphor which signifies the individual’s sacrifice and also alludes to the larger narrative of suffering and resilience, echoing the challenges faced by Palestinians living under occupation.

Mansour’s masterful use of colors and composition conveys a sense of collective grief and determination. The mourners’ faces bear expressions of sorrow and strength, a testament to their unwavering commitment to honoring their fallen and continuing their struggle for justice.

Rituals Under Occupation serves as a powerful reminder of the complex realities faced by Palestinians living in the midst of conflict and oppression. It sheds light on the profound impact of loss and violence on a community, while also emphasizing the enduring strength and unity that arise from shared experiences.

Through this evocative artwork, Sliman Mansour offers a glimpse into the resilience and dignity of the Palestinian people in the face of adversity. Rituals Under Occupation becomes a visual narrative that invites viewers to contemplate the human cost of occupation, the power of cultural rituals in times of hardship, and the profound connection between suffering, sacrifice, and the longing for freedom.
